Con struct ion
As we returned for the final
year of our public educofton, we
were greeted by some srronge
sights. The bock of the school wos
oil fenced off, mounds of dirt were
everywhere, ond construction
workers were rearing up the
grounds. Inside Mr. DiSorcino wos
removed from his lovely" green
room, ond Mr. Dicey ond the
YECD CORP. were dispoced ofrer
over twenty yeors of residence.
The distroctions increosed as the
school year progressed. The
pounding of sledge hammers, the
number of heavy machinery, the
whine of drills, and the rattle of
jackhammers provided more than
enough noise to cause problems in teaching and learning. Even
Mr. Krey had a hard time being heard during the year. Things
were definitely difficult on both sides of the desks.
Now that our final year has come to a close, we must
consider how the High School renovation will benefit future
students, whether they be strangers, neighbors, younger brothers
and sisters, or even our children Although we were faced with
many obstacles throughout the year, the results of the
renovation will prove to have been valuable. A special thank
you to all of the people who supported this project and helped
it become a reality
The High School renovation is going along smoothly now, but it wasn't always this way-
the beginning was o very rocky rood. The project's footings were put down in October

of 1982 when the Permanent Building Committee was reactivated to study the High School.
The PDC decided to hire a consultant and at the 1983 Town Meeting they were voted $35,000
\ro hire Design Partnership of Cambridge to draw up a set of preliminary plans. The

firm came up with a figure of 6.5 million dollars. In November of 1983, a special Town
Meeting was colled because a vote to override proposition 2Vi was needed. Unfortunately,
rhis morion wos defeored. In Jonuory of 1984, Dr. Corol Soger ond rhe school commirree
organized a Renovation Task Force, whose job was ro educate and inform the voters. Their
master stroke, was the roily on the common on April 14, 1984, o week before the
vote ro override prop 2Vi for second rime. The roily wos o huge success ond, on
April 21, the town voted ro override prop 2V2. On April 28, it wos voted to ollow the
town to borrow the money to finance the project. Finally in September, 1984 the final
design conrrocr was signed, stoning the wheels towards the building of o better high school.

DOYS CROSS COUNTRY
For the second year in a row, o strong
Lawrence cross country team stood in the
way of the Wildcat's attempt to win the
MVC Small Schools' Championship. The
ten point loss dimmed, but did not tarnish
the overall commendable 7-3 record. Dil-
lerico, Haverhill, Andover, and Lowell
were oil defeated along with Dracur,
Tewksbury, and Methuen. Brian Riberio
and Frank Dinsmore were both outstand-
ing throughout the season and again
were accorded All-Star recognition by
MVC coaches. Although seniors were the
backbone of this years squad. A strong
nucleus of underclassmen should make
things interesting in 1986.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Injuries finally caught up with a ream
rhar only had five veteran runners this
year. Wins over Lawrence ond Andover
were rewarding while close losses ro Oil
lerica ond Tewksbury proved rhar rhis
ream could be respectable if its members
could stay healthy. There were no "ifs"
about Andrea Hoyden's performances,
however. Her second outstanding cross
country season in a row earned her M VC,
Lowell Sun, and Boston Globe AllScholas
tie recognition. Valiant efforts by many of
the other ream members also contributed
greatly to the Wildcat's successes.

The 1935 Field Hockey Team, lead by co-coproins
Aurelie Smith and Lisa Cur one, regained the MVC
Championship by posring a 15-1-2 regular season
record. The lone loss came in a hard faughr contest
The offense scored 48 goals, most off the sticks of
the 'dynamic duo", Morion Cushing and Lisa Cu-
rone. Doth forwards were MVC All-Conference
The mid- field was controlled by the flashy sticte of
veterans Aurelie Smith and Renae Allaby. They also
provided the defense on the White Mt. 3 on 3
championship. Only 6 goals were scored against the
Champs all season. Providing this form/table barrier
was Carolyn Tuxbury "(Steady Freddie)" and "All-
Everyrhing" Nancy Newark. Goalie Tina Favero had
53 saves to help the cause.
This teams' all around "artistic" display of skill and
ream work made them a joy to watch.

The 1985 Wildcat Soccer season was hi-lired by the strong
defensive play of Captain Chris Parr, the scoring of Roy Mercuri
and the goal keeping of Captain Steve Djorh. All of the above
players made rhe MVC Small School All-Star Team.
There were other seniors who made strong contributions to
the Cats 6-12 season. Mid- fielder and Captain Eric Torell, De-
fenders Tom O'Reilly, Chris Sartori, Dave Hamilton and Chris
Kincaid and striker Paul Mororto.
It was a 3rd place finish for the Cots in the MVC Small School
The first year for rhe Wilmington Girls Soccer Team was a building year.
The record of 1-8-2 doesn't reflect the improvement shown by the team.
Due to a late start, games during the first half of the season were spent
learning new skills and positions. The second half brought greater sucess . . .
scoring ten goals to the opponents' twelve.
Co-captains for this year of ploy were Shannon Penney and Danielle Vinal,
while rhe seniors were Kerry Sheehan, Laurie Murray and co-captain Vinal.
The leading scorer for rhe Wildcats was Shannon Penney with three goals;
following Shannon were Missy Jamerson and Terry Murray with two goals;
and Lauren Scalesse, Kelley DeYoung and Danielle Fay with a goal each.
The team felt that their improvement was due to hard work and the fine
coaching of Dill Peabody and Frank Birmingham.

WHS's SADD (Students Against Driving Drunk) chapter was founded in the fall of 1984. Since then it has become one of the largest and
most active student organizations ro pass through Wilmington High. SADD is run by students for students. It is based upon a ' 'Contract For Life"
idea that drinking and driving don 't mix. Previous activities have included sponsoring quest speakers, an ' 'After Prom Pony" hotline, and a
balloon fund raiser. Several SADD members and their advisor, Mr. Melhodo, have also appeared on the Jim Miceli Show. In 1985-86, SADD
will launch a Peer Leadership program in the Junior Highs and Elementary schools. SADD is a notional organization dedicated to the well-be-
ing of teen-agers. WHS is proud ro have such a program.

The New England Patriots had their besr season ever, with the Pars
reaching rhe Super Bowl for rhe first rime in their history.
After a shaky start with Tony Eason as quarterback, and coach Raymond
Deny calling the plays, Steve Grogan stepped in calling his own plays and helped
win six straighr victories.
After Grogan suffered a broken leg in a New York Jets game, Eason came
back as a matured and confident player. As a wildcard ream in the playoffs,
Raymond Berry's Patriots won an emorional game against the Los Angeles
Raiders. After that game, the Patriots did what they haven 't been able to do
since 1969- beat the Miami Dolphins in the Orange Bowl. With New England fans
chanting 'Squish the Fish", the Pats beat rhe Dolphins 31-14, giving the Pats a trip
to New Orleans for a dare with the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XX. In that
game, the Bears bear rhe Patriots 46-10. Alrhought the Pats lost, they gained rhe
respect rhar they deserved, and they realized that if they made it once, they
can return again.

When you make millions and millions of pairs of the world's finest athletic
shoes as we do at Converse, you're bound to make a few boo boo's. A missed
stitch here. A little skuff mark there. A tiny dab of glue that our quality inspectors
get sticky about.
Nothing that in any way affects the performance of our shoes (in fact, most
of the blemishes are so slight, you're going to have to look closely just to find them.)
But standards are standards.
So, regretfully, every month we ship cases and cases of almost perfectly
good basketball, football, tennis and running shoes to our Converse Factory Outlets
and sell them at tremendous savings. All because, as good as we are at making
athletic shoes, we're still not perfect. Aren't you glad?
